The Testing, Adjusting and Balancing Bureau (TABB) was developed by the National Energy Management Institute Committee (NEMIC), a not-for-profit corporation sponsored by the Sheet Metal Workers' International Association (SMWIA) and the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors' National Association (SMACNA). TABB runs the TAB (testing, adjusting and balancing) certification program, which ensures that HVAC systems operate at the highest standards and with the greatest efficiency and effectiveness at every stage of an indoor environmental retrofit - or to new building specification.
International Certification Board
The International Certification Board - or ICB - was established as an entity to oversee programs determined to need certification. These programs would be reviewed initially by task forces appointed by the Board of Directors and the ICB for formulation of strategic plans and various disciplines as determined to be necessary. The ICB's mission statement is.
Mission Statement: The purpose of the International
Certification Board (ICB) is to direct a comprehensive
set of certification programs to assure customers of
the sheet metal industry of the quality advantages of
utilizing persons or entities certified by the ICB.
The ICB establishes policies, standards and procedures
for certification programs via particular bureaus. One
of those bureaus is the Testing, Adjusting and
Balancing Bureau (TABB). TABB establishes and
directs an international certification program for technicians,
supervisors and contractors engaged in testing, adjusting
and balancing of all building environmental systems.
TABB is the first program to combine all certification
elements of a testing, adjusting and balancing project.
As a vehicle to assist TABB, we are proud to offer educational and marketing material and have established an Affiliate program. Affiliates are made up of contractors in a given geographical area to further their business interests and promote TABB in the engineering and building industry. TABB Affiliate offices can be found in New York, Indiana, Orange County (CA) and Los Angeles.
