BECOMING CERTIFIED AND REQUIREMENTS

Qualifying For The Test. To qualify for the TABB Supervisor certification test, the applicant must meet one of the following eligibility criteria:

A. College/university degree in engineering with a minimum of four (4) years experience in HVAC installation or design work, OR
B. A two (2) year associate degree in HVAC with a minimum of six (6) years experience in HVAC installation or design work, OR
C. Holds testing, adjusting and balancing technician certification that is recognized by TABB (Air and Hydronics), with a minimum of four (4) years testing, adjusting and balancing experience.
D. One company principal with company signature authority with a minimum of six years of field experience not including apprenticeship, and a minimum of four years experience in supervising HVAC install or HVAC design work.

Becoming Certified. To become a TABB Certified Supervisor, the eligible applicant also must:

A. Pass the TABB Supervisor examination
B. Demonstrate a history of testing, adjusting and balancing work that conforms with TABB standards, as determined by TABB, and
C. Meet all other TABB requirements for or conditions of Supervisor certification then in effect, as reflected on the TABB supervision application form.

A false or incomplete statement by an applicant in the application form or in the application process will be grounds for denial of certification, or for subsequent withdrawal of certification or other sanction.

THE CERTIFICATION PROCESS

Application Procedures

The applicant must

A. Obtain and complete a supervisor application form.
B. Submit the completed application with required attachments to TABB, Edward F. Carlough Plaza, 601 North Fairfax Street, Suite 250, Alexandria, Virginia 22314.

TABB will notify the applicant of the action taken on the application.

1. If the form and content of the application are approved, the applicant will be notified.
2. If not approved, the applicant will be notified. The applicant may make an Objection. That is the only recourse available to the applicant.

Required Verifications

Written verification of the following items must accompany the supervisor application:

A. Proof of the requisite college/university or associate degree, or proof of TABB-recognized certification as a testing, adjusting and balancing technician.
B. Experience must be verified by letters from employers stating the dates of employment and the type of work performed, or other evidence satisfactory to TABB.

Supervisor Certification Testing

The Supervisor certification examination will consist of a written test (the "Exam") intended to gauge how well the applicant understands and applies the Proficiency Requirements.

A. The Exam will be administered by the TABB test proctor at sites designated by TABB.
B. The Exam will be delivered, completed and returned (in print, electronic or other form) under strict security regulations as specified by TABB.
C. If an Exam score is acceptable, TABB will notify the applicant.
D. If an Exam score is unsatisfactory, the applicant will be notified. The applicant may request a retest. The request must be made within one year and be accompanied by the TABB retest fee.

The Exam will cover Proficiency Requirements needed to supervise testing, adjusting and balancing processes according to design criteria. The applicant is required to pass all components of the Exam.

Supervisor Certification

If an approved applicant successfully completes the Exam, certification documents will be issued by TABB. TABB certification has a fixed duration. TABB has the right to withdraw TABB certification ("decertification").

TABB Certification alone does not authorize signing reports as a TABB Certified Supervisor, or other use of the certification. Signing reports or other use is authorized only during and in the course of qualifying employment.
