Dear Construction Specifier:
The Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors National Association (SMACNA) encourages your support for referencing certification by the Testing Adjusting and Balancing Bureau (TABB) in project specifications for the testing and balancing of HVAC systems in new and retrofit construction. A decision to include TABB will result in direct benefits by expanding professional and accessible resources and by raising the execution level of Testing, Adjusting and Balancing (TAB) contractors.
SMACNA endorses TABB’s procedures which include a strict code of conduct for technicians performing hands on TAB work. Those procedures also provide for a 13-hour technicians examination.
TABB’s certification program is administered by the International Certification Board and all certifications are performed on a national basis. This provides for consistency and quality in all aspects of the TAB certification process which is often lost in locally based and administered programs.
SMACNA supports TABB’s national efforts to raise the bar for TAB contractors especially with TABB certified firms now firmly established in many major market areas.
SMACNA recommends including TABB in Specification Section 15990 or the new CSI Division 23 05 93. You can obtain a TABB model specification by clicking here.
To obtain more information from TABB, you can contact them at (703) 299-5646.
Sincerely,Keith E. Wilson
