TABB MODULES

TABB is committed to keeping the SMWIA and SMACNA members in the forefront with cutting-edge training and technology. The training modules for TABB Certification have been developed to give both basic and advanced level participants intensive training in subjects necessary to ensure the highest quality skills for the newest technologies.

As recognition of the TABB logo escalates and industry decision-makers increasingly acknowledge TABB represents the best the HVAC industry has to offer, being TABB Certified will become more and more of a strategic advantage over the competition.

The following is a description of current TABB modules:

  • Indoor Air Quality: how to inspect the HVAC system and building for IAQ problems, take measurements using specialized equipment, and provide analysis and recommendations to certified supervisor or engineer.
  • Energy Management in Commercial Building Systems: provides a basic understanding of and ability to complete moderately complex calculations to determine how and where energy is used in commercial building systems; pricing and price structure of various commercial forms of energy; and concepts of efficiency, potential energy savings measures, and basic and "rule of thumb" energy and cost-savings calculations.
  • Electrical Theory: provides a basic understanding of electrical principles and terms.
  • Equipment Start-Up: the importance of commissioning, start-up and testing, adjusting and balancing to ensure the HVAC system is operating as it should.
  • Sound and Vibration Technology: analysis of the basic theories of sound and vibration and tools for measurement in a HVAC system.
  • Duct Leakage Testing: how to test the leakage rate of a specified section of a duct system.
  • Electric Motors and Starters: analysis of types of motors, wiring, replacement, circuit protection, drives and calculating power and work.
  • Psychrometrics: analysis of thermodynamics of moist air to analyze conditions and processes involving moist air.
  • Piping Systems: analysis of piping systems for hydronics - systems for heating and cooling by forced circulation of liquids, usually water.

Manuals on the modules listed above are available and can be ordered by your JATC Coordinator through the ITI Website, www.sheetmetal-iti.org. New modules currently under development include: fans, pumps, DDC, VAV and Cleanrooms.
