Business Track: NFPA 70E 2018
Electrocution is a well-known hazard associated with direct contact with electrical energy. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, it is estimated that more than 400 fatalities and nearly 10,000 serious injuries occur each year due to electrocution and arc flash incidents. Arc flash incidents alone are estimated to occur five to 10 times each day — resulting in a fatality every workday. According to OSHA, electrocution was the third-leading cause of worker fatalities in the construction industry in calendar year 2015. To help prevent these types of electrical accidents, the 2018 version of the “National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 70E: Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace” makes essential updates in the areas of safety, maintenance, and training. 2018 NFPA 70E updates affect your most valuable assets. Subjects covered include arc flash hazards, arc flash risk assessment, arc flash labeling, and proper PPE.
